📖 Chapter 3: The Chaldean Alphabet–Number Chart

Chaldean Numerology

The Chaldean Alphabet–Number Chart Guide

How to map letters to numbers (1–8), calculate your Name Number, and read compound vs. root vibrations.

1) Why letters carry vibration

In Chaldean numerology, sound = vibration. Each letter-sound is linked to a number (1–8). When letters combine to form a name, they create a total vibration (a compound first, then a root).

Key mindset: prioritize how the name is actually pronounced over how it’s spelled.

2) The Chaldean letter–number map (1–8)

Note: 9 is sacred and not assigned to letters.
Number Letters (English) Quick vibe
1A, I, J, Q, YInitiation, individuality
2B, K, RSensitivity, partnership
3C, G, L, SExpression, creativity
4D, M, TWork, order, reform
5E, H, N, XChange, intellect, motion
6U, V, WHarmony, love, responsibility
7O, ZWisdom, spirituality
8F, PPower, karma, finance
9Sacred (divine/eternal), kept apart

3) Practical rules (so you calculate like a pro)

A. Use the name you use

  • Birth/Legal full name → foundational destiny vibration.
  • Daily/Calling name → your current field of vibration.
  • If you use a stage name / nickname / married name, calculate that too.

B. Work phonetically

  • If a letter is silent, you may drop it (because its sound isn’t vibrating).
Example: Knight → pronounced “nite” → N(5)+I(1)+T(4)+E(5) = 15 → root 1+5=6
  • If a letter changes sound with context, count the actual sound.
  • X is mapped to 5, but if a word clearly sounds like “ks,” many practitioners still keep X=5 for consistency.

C. Y and W as (sometimes) vowels

  • In Chaldean mapping, Y=1, W=6.
  • Soul Urge (vowels-only): treat Y as a vowel only when it sounds like one (Lynn, Kyle).
  • W rarely functions as a vowel in English; if it clearly does (rare), you may treat it as a vowel.

D. Digraphs & specials

  • PH is commonly read literally as P(8)+H(5)=13, even though it sounds like “F”.
  • CH, SH, TH → count each letter separately per the chart.
  • Apostrophes, spaces, hyphens → ignore (they don’t carry vibration).

E. Non-English names (very common and totally fine)

Transliterate by sound into the closest English letters. The goal is to mirror pronunciation, not strict spelling.

Example (Hindi): “Priyā” → “Priya” (P, R, I, Y, A).
Example (Arabic): “Muhammad” → often sounds like Mo-ham-mad → M(4)+U(6)+H(5)+A(1)+M(4)+M(4)+A(1)+D(4).
Consistency tip: Once you settle on a phonetic spelling for a non-English name, keep that same transliteration whenever you recalc.

4) How to calculate a Name Number (step-by-step)

  1. Write the name how it’s pronounced.
  2. Replace each letter with its Chaldean number (1–8).
  3. Add everything.
  4. Read the compound total first (e.g., 12, 16, 23, 29…), then reduce to a root (add digits).
Example A: “ANNA”
A(1) + N(5) + N(5) + A(1) = 12 → root 1+2=3
Read 12/3: 12 (sacrifice/creative tests), 3 (expression/joy).
Example B: “ROBERT”
R(2) + O(7) + B(2) + E(5) + R(2) + T(4)
Add carefully: 2+7=9; +2=11; +5=16; +2=18; +4=22 → root 2+2=4
Read 22/4: 22 (master builder/large responsibilities), 4 (work/structure).
Example C: “PRIYA SHARMA”
PRIYA: P(8)+R(2)+I(1)+Y(1)+A(1) = 13
SHARMA: S(3)+H(5)+A(1)+R(2)+M(4)+A(1) → 3+5=8; +1=9; +2=11; +4=15; +1=16
Full name total: 13 + 16 = 29 → root 2+9=11 → 1+1=2
Read 29/2: 29 (trials/emotional lessons/“grace under pressure”), 2 (cooperation, diplomacy).
Accuracy tip: Always compute digit by digit so you don’t lose accuracy.

5) Reading compound vs root (how to interpret)

Compound = the story (karmic tests, blessings, patterns).
Root = the core tone the world feels from you.

Common compound notes (quick taste)

  • 11: inspiration, spiritual channel (root 2 cooperation).
  • 12: sacrifice & creative service (root 3 expression).
  • 13: transformation through work (root 4 reform).
  • 14: change, travel, adaptability (root 5 motion).
  • 16: awakening through trials (root 7 spirituality).
  • 19: victory after effort (root 1 leadership).
  • 23: “Royal Star of the Lion” (protection/luck; root 5).
  • 26: money/partnership responsibilities (root 8).
  • 29: emotional tests/relationships (root 2).

(You’ll get the full 10–52 guide in the compound-numbers chapter.)

6) Soul Urge & Personality (optional but useful)

Many modern Chaldean practitioners also compute:

  • Soul Urge (Heart’s Desire) → vowels only of the full name (use Y as vowel when it sounds like a vowel).
  • Personality → consonants only (the mask/outer style).

These add nuance: inner needs (Soul Urge) vs outer image (Personality). The Name/Destiny total remains the central Chaldean indicator.

7) What to do if numbers “clash” (name vs birth)

  • If your Name Number and Birth/Life Path feel at odds (e.g., 4 vs 5), you may adjust spelling or use a different calling name to shift the vibration.
  • You can also add a middle initial or choose a business/brand name with a supportive compound (23, 19, 32 are popular).
  • Best practice: change the daily-use name before changing legal documents; then track how life flows for a few months.

8) Mini checklist (so you don’t miss anything)

  • Use the name you use (and also check birth name).
  • Convert by sound, drop obvious silent letters.
  • Map letters with the Chaldean chart (1–8); 9 is sacred.
  • Add to a compound; then reduce to root.
  • Interpret compound first, root second.
  • (Optional) Calculate Soul Urge (vowels) & Personality (consonants).
  • Compare with Birth Day and Life Path for harmony.

9) Exercises (Chapter 3)

Exercise 3.1 — Your full-name vibration

  1. Write your full birth name as it’s pronounced.
  2. Convert letters with the Chaldean chart; add to a compound.
  3. Reduce to the root.
  4. Write a few lines on what the compound might be telling you.

Exercise 3.2 — Your daily-use name

Repeat Exercise 3.1 with the name people use for you now. Compare results:

  • Does the daily name support your goals better than the birth name?

Exercise 3.3 — Subtle tweaks

Try a small spelling change (e.g., adding an initial, altering one letter). Recalculate:

  • Did the compound shift?
  • How does the root feel now?

Exercise 3.4 — Family & business names

Pick a loved one’s name or a business/brand idea. Calculate its compound/root.

  • Is it supportive (e.g., 23, 19, 32), or heavy (e.g., 16, 29)?
